A mountain lion was caught on camera Friday in southern Platte County, the Missouri Department of Conservation said Tuesday.

I lived there for 30 years. Never had a cougar sighting. There were hardly any deer back then. It's because back then everybody hunted trapped and we decimated the wildlife. Now it has become a different type of people that live around there that would not know the first thing about living in the woods and the deer population has flourished giving the cougars a food source.

Missouri conservation officials will get help from the Appalachian Wildlife Foundation to return elk herds to the southern part of the state.
